The design competition of the new headquarters of Ministry of International Trade and Industries (MITI) was undertaken in 2008. The invited competition calls for a transformative design proposal for the users, and for the site. We proposed a series of building masses, a separated but integrated planning, which clearly illustrated its internal function. Sleek and uncluttered architectural image were proposed, to relate to the international character of the ministry. A large outdoor ‘trade plaza’ was designed to accommodate multi-purpose activities usually held by the ministries throughout the year.
